Those who suffer from the trapped gas in the lower intestines should try eating raw onions which I find the best snd healthy probiotic for the guts. I try to eat at least half of a mid size red onion. Add to your salad or quick stir’fry of cauliflower, broccoli and some tomatoes but do not fry the onion.

In reply to Lyn. Sorry for the delay, Lyn. Here is your answer: Fresh sweet/mild onions (for that part all onions) can be used immediately after being harvested. There are no specific cons. Shelf life is really the only question = curing helps them store longer; a shorter over all timespan for sweet/mild onions; a longer period for ‘storage’ type onions.

What are the benefits of using fresh sweet onions that has not been cured yet? Are there any cons? I understand that curing the onions allows it for a better shelf life but are there other benefits?
